When Heather and I left tonight to go visit some friends, the first drizzle had appeared - signaling in the fall season in southern California. We were a little worried since our new roof is not yet complete so we put a tarp over some of the boxes we had in the upstairs sun room which was exposed to the outside since the siding had been removed. We then headed out expecting a nice evening with friends. In the middle of dinner, after I had consumed my first martini and was well into my first beer, the rain started to really come down pounding on the streets and the rooftops. Heather started to get really worried because she was afraid our ceilings would get ruined. I shrugged the whole thing off thinking that there wasn’t anything we could do. After a couple minutes of debating the situation, Heather decided that she wanted to leave to check the house. I decided that I would go with her. So we cut our evening short and left.
Rain poured down from the sky on our drive home and the windshield wipers had difficulty in keeping a clear view of the road. The roads themselves were slick and the divider lines blended into the asphalt under sheets of water.
When we arrived home we quickly checked each room. The living room was ok. Our renovated dining room was ok (what a relief). Then I heard Heather yell, “We’ve got a huge problem”. I went into the kitchen and to my horror saw water dripping from different parts of the ceiling. Heather opened up the cabinets and brown water was dripping all over our clean dishes and glasses. We moved to the back porch and discovered a small waterfall flowing from the ceiling on the back porch and in the bathroom. We went upstairs and found water dripping in the upstairs bathroom and in the second bedroom as well.
We had a small disaster on our hands.
We scrambled around the house for buckets and I climbed up into the attic to see if I could contain the water up there. When I was in the attic I found water dripping from the roof, but not in huge quantities. Heather handed me paint trays and I put them under the leaks in the roof. Heather told me the problem was actually in the crawlspace that was above the kitchen and back porch. As I was investigating the problem, Heather yelled “The ceiling is coming down in the kitchen! Get a bucket quick!” I ran downstairs with a bucket to find that the dripping was turning into a steady stream of brown water pissing from the ceiling. At that point I decided I needed to get onto the roof and cover the unfinished roof with plastic. Heather called our contractor.
Heather wanted to get into the crawlspace with buckets to contain the water. I wanted to go out the second story window onto the unfinished part of the roof. I quickly moved boxes out from the crawl space and we put buckets in there to catch the water. Then I dismantled the window and tried to put a big piece of plastic on the roof. I was going to nail the plastic down but Heather didn’t want me out on the roof since it was raining.
After some time our contractor and his father showed up to asses the situation. They then proceeded out the window and onto the roof with a big piece of plastic. They nailed the plastic down and told us they would be back tomorrow to finish the roof installation. They were very kind. They had even called earlier when we were out to tell us it was raining.
So now we have a HUGE mess. The ceilings need to be replaced in two rooms. They had to be replaced anyway, but now the need is more urgent. All our dishes need to be washed and the cabinets need to be cleaned and dried out.
Fun.

I’m having trouble focusing. Too many things on my mind…
I ate way too many carbs today. Pasta, banana bread, bread, cookies, Mountain Dew… I figured I could afford cheating a little since my weight is hovering around 152lbs. I actually would like to put on 5-10lbs of weight - lean, muscle weight, but that would require me getting to the gym more often which is difficult since my schedule is so crazy nowadays.
Acting class was good last night. I got good feedback from my other classmates, but I still feel ackward with the words and I defnitely feel stiff. I need to work more on the script…
“Training Day” w/ Denzel was on HBO tonight. I watched the first 20min in order to get a feel for his character taking note of his confidence and attitude. I feel my character has similar qualities…
I need to get working on my piece for the show we’re doing next month as part of the “Treasure in the House” series at the Santa Monica Highways performance space. One thing I wanted to do is setup my camcorder and record myself performing this piece, and also my scene for class. I think this could help me tremendously by enabling me to watch my performance as an audience member.
I feel myself changing as a person and an actor. The acting training has really taught me to be available emotionally and to be sensitive to the world around me. I still have a lot to learn, but the change is happening. I feel myself gaining confidence in my performances.
The holiday season starts TOMORROW. There is going to be a HUGE Halloween bash in West Hollywood but Heather and I will be spending our evening with friends watching movies and eating.

We just experienced an earthquake… the whole building shook as if we were going over a speed bump. That’s part of the fun living in California. Fires and earthquakes…

Hmmm…
No word from my agent regarding a callback for the commercial I just auditioned for. That sucks.
I’m starting to worry nowadays that I’m going to get a “drop” letter from my commercial agent. I’ve been with my commercial agent since 1997 and have only booked 4-5 gigs over the years. None of the gigs I have booked have been huge money makers. So I wonder how much longer my agent is going to keep sending me out hoping to score a big national commercial with lots of residuals. Plus, I still haven’t paid my SAG membership dues either. If I get dropped from my commercial agency, I’ll definitely need to get my SAG card so I can obtain commercial representation elsewhere…

Heather recently took some photos of our house which we have been restoring. Currently a new roof is being installed. The photos were shot using our new Kodak 5megapixel camera…

I talked to my parents tonight and my mom told me about this fruit called Mangosteen. She remembers eating the fruit as a child in the Philippines and recently found out that Mangosteen has been discovered to have incredible nutritional properties. There are now some companies offering Mangosteen in beverage form as a “cure-all”. I don’t believe all the hype, but I am interested in trying it.
I also read that Durian is considered the “King” of fruits. My personal memories of Durian are from high school when relatives had brought some over when they were visiting from Hong Kong. The stuff smelled like ASS! Well, not literally, but it smelled really bad. So bad that I didn’t want to try it. SUPPOSEDLY, if you can get past the smell, the fruit itself is “the most delicious” fruit in the world.
Maybe I’ll give it a second chance…

I had an audition today for a video game commercial. It was one of those group auditions where they want to see some group improvisation, personality and lots of energy. So that’s what I gave them! I gave them my goofy, wacky, high-energy self and got laughs from the casting director and my fellow actors. For once, I was full of confidence and just went for it. Even if I don’t get a callback I feel good about the performance I gave today.

As the next chapter of the Matrix quickly approaches, technology that enables the possibility of a REAL “Matrix” quickly emerges. Desktop machines are now capable of generating complex, realistic, 3-D environments such as a forest. A couple of years ago, this kind of computational feat was only possible with supercomputers. Now they are putting this kind of technology into games…

Wildfires rage on in Califronia shutting down freeways and LAX (Los Angeles International airport). In some parts of California it’s snowing - ashes…

Luckily we are largely unaffected in our area, but yesterday I could faintly smell the fire. It was also hazy. I thought it was smog but the haziness was from the fires…
My prayers go out to those who are affected…

I wore my “hip-hop” clothes to my coporate job today which consisted of a P. Diddy T-shirt, baggy workout pants and a baseball hat worn backwards. As the day progressed I kind of took on that confident, defiant, “dont give a fu*k” attitude and thought about how this was similar to the Bernie character I am playing in “The Country Girl” for class…
I received a pretty intense (but good) 10min massage arranged by the dot-com company I work for (they spend money like the dot-com companies did in the late 90’s. It’s wierd)…
I went to Yet Another Team Meeting…

Went to a rehersal w/ Dan Kwong in preparation for the upcoming November show. We worked on blocking in the new theater space and also on performance aspects of my piece.
Had Yet Another Meeting at work about how the tech team is now on 24-hour call and will receive pages from time to time to fix things on the web site.
Got a call from my commercial agency for an audition monday for a video game commercial…
Had an idea about writing a performance piece on me, self-identity and my relationship and love affair with R&B music…
Bought pizza and chocolate pie for Heather and I, and we just chilled while watching tv and stuffing ourselves silly with loads of carbs…
Started reading the book Foreign Dialects to see if I could learn how to do a Chinese and Filipino accent…
