Thanksgiving is over. Must train for Christmas.

I’m going back on a diet and training schedule starting tomorrow. Today Heather and I hit the local GNC and bought a bunch of supplements. This months edition of Men’s Health had a list of some essential vitamins and supplements that men should take as protection for cancer, heart disease, memory loss, and general well being. This included:

Boron - To protect your prostate
Calcium - To strengthen bones
Chromium - To regulate insulin
CoQ10 - For energy
Creatine - For muscle performance AND memory enhancement
Folic Acid - To improve blood flow
Glucosamine - To improve joints
Omega-3 - To protect the heart
Selenium - To protect against cancer
Vitamin E - To slow aging

Of course, a good multi-vitamin is included in this regimine. I also will continue drinking a lot of green tea, going low-carb for a week and working hard at the gym. I want to train hard enough so I can afford to splurge the week of Christmas.

Update:

Right now I’m just using the GNC brand of creatine. There are tons of different kinds , but from the research I just did on Google, creatine manufactured from Germany is the purest. Here’s some links for your research:

I’m addicted to my cell phone!!!

I’ve had the Motorola MPX200 for over a week now and I absolutely love it!!! The only problem I had was a wierd buzzing from the keypad caused by the backlight. I did some research online and discovered that other people were having this problem as well. So today I took the phone back to Best Buy for an exchange. Hopefully I won’t have a problem with this phone. Anyway, tonight I’ve spent the last 3 hours customizing my phone with ringtones, images, Smartphone apps and even modifying the XML file which controls the layout and display of the “home page”. Very, very cool.

Thanksgiving at Ferguson Farms

After waking up at 4.30am Indiana farm time, driving 3.3 hours to Chicago in the bone-chilling wind and flying 4 hours in a plane with bratty, noisy, kicking kids sitting directly behind us, Heather and I arrived back in Los Angeles 68 degree weather this morning. It was a beautiful day to be back home.

We had a very busy, but enjoyable Thanksgiving. Heather has a large family that is spread across Indiana and there are lots of people to visit and see. I spent a lot of time sitting in different living rooms listening to long conversations about family, friends, farming and the local community. Things are very different on the farm than I’m used to. For one, everyone gets up very early in the mornings to take care of farming “business” which includes tending to the thousands of ducks in the buildings out back, tending to the dogs, the horse and other farming things which I know nothing about. Second, nobody seems to lock anything on the farm. All the cars are always unlocked with the keys in them and all the doors to each house are unlocked as well. We would travel to people’s houses and walk right in. This is something that I don’t think I’ll ever get used to. But it’s nice. It’s quiet and there is a lot of open space. This of couse is quite opposite to life in Los Angeles.

Thanksigiving itself was quite a feast. There was horseradish mashed potatoes (Heather’s specialty), regular mashed potatoes, green bean cassarole, oyster cassarole, twice baked sweet potatoes, turkey (or course), orange rolls (a favorite) and apple salad. For dessert we had a choice of homemade apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and a Dairy Queen ice cream cake to celebrate November birthdays (which included Heather although her Birthday is in December). So we basically ate a lot of food, played a card game with Heather’s niece and nephew, watched a movie, went to visit more people, came back and ate some more.

The next day we had a Ferguson family photo session at Heather’s uncle’s house. Even though the entire Ferguson family has accepted me as a part of the family, sometimes I still feel out of place. The photo session was one of those times. Looking at some of the photos it was a little wierd to see this big caucasion family with one asian guy in the mix. But there I am smiling in the Ferguson family portrait that will probably be hanging in several farm houses for years to come.

Earlier in the week I asked Heather whether or not she thinks that I am the first Asian to come through this farming town. She said, “Probably.” That’s kinda cool. Good to know I’m mixing things up and causing a small stir in this rural community. I could feel people watching Heather and I at times when we were at the new super Wal-Mart in town or at the local diner. I always felt a little self-conscious, but it didn’t bother me. Being different is something I’ve gotten used to and even enjoy.

It’s all about the dog.

Right now we’re suppose to be on a flight to the farm. Instead we’re at home. Turns out that ATA would not let us board the plane with our dog in cargo because the temperature in the plane can be below freezing during flight. I’m glad they told us this. So we are now rescheduled to fly out tomorrow during the day when the temperature in the plane is warmer. In the meantime Heather is creating the ultimate doggy-trailer/kennel complete with insulation and pillows so our dog does not get too cold. It’s the kind of thing you would hear about celebrities doing for their pets. Only difference is that we’re not celebrities. I’m reminded of that movie “Best in Show“. I fear we are becoming like characters in that movie.

BTW, we were at the Beverly Center tonight and Heather pointed out Nikki Hilton at the pet store. She just looked like another blond teenager to me…

We’re going to the farm

Once again I’m up at 2.35am and I’m exhausted. I have to go to work tomorrow morning and then be at LAX with Heather in the afternoon to catch a flight to the farm for Thanksgiving. I haven’t packed yet. Heather said she would pack my things. I love my wife. I will be blogging from the farm using the very cool AudBlog service and my new MPx200 Smartphone!!! I couldn’t wait any longer so I went to Best Buy and picked up the phone. The only problem is that AT&T was upgrading their systems and could not handle migrating my old TDMA account to the new GSM plan. Luckily a very helpful AT&T rep was at the store and I told him that I wanted to activate the new phone using a new number - then, when the AT&T systems are up, I will transfer my old number to my new phone and cancel my old plan. Well, that worked. So now I have a very cool Smartphone.

Packaging people as products

This morning I found a very interesting article in the Hollywood Reporter talking about “Celebrity Branding“. It is a fascinating look into the marketplace and business of celebrities and how they use their image and branding power to make money. A couple years ago I read a book concerning this topic as well: “High Visibility“. I highly recommend this book to any professional looking to get ahead in the marketplace and differentiate themselves from everyone else. High visibility and “image marketing” is not just for actors and entertainers.
