Murphy’s Law in full effect.

Today I looked up the origin of Murphy’s Law because right now I feel like my life is a good example of it.

It all started Tues night when I started feeling like I was getting a cold. I was fatigued, my sinuses were congested and I was just about to go to bed early when Heather’s machine (a Mac G4) took a big core dump on her screen in the middle of her work for a deadline she was trying to meet. After restarting the machine and trying to open up her Photoshop file she received the error “unexpected end-of-file was encountered”. Hours worth of work had just been corrupted. So I jumped in and set out to try to recover the file. I ended up working into the late hours of the night and early hours of the morning running Norton Disk Doctor, re-installing OS/X and trying every trick I could to try to recover the file. Nothing. I then decided to try to recover the file on my PC. Well, my PC started crashing and locking up as well. I was so frustrated at 4am that I kicked my computer. Hard. And now the computer won’t even start. Damn.

So at this point, Heather’s machine has major problems with the hard disk which causes her machine to randomly crash and has forced her to save her work every 5 min to a different drive, AND my machine is basically dead ’cause I kicked it and killed it. PLUS I found out our one and only car needs $700 worth of work. PLUS I’m sick, my impacted wisdom teeth are bothering me AND we don’t have the money to deal with all these problems all at once.

Sometimes life is just no fun.

On a positive note, my partner and I gave a very rousing performance of “She Stoops to Conquer” last night in class. Mary (one of our acting coaches) has put us on our feet - which means now we have to incorporate all the blocking and movement. It’s going to be great! Everyone thinks our scene is really funny, just wait till they see the choreographhy!

I Googled and hoped that you could provide me with an answer for my search of ‘photoshop, “unexpected end of file was encountered.”‘ But i suppose I learned something anyway and won’t kick my machine like you did. My hard drive had a major crash a month ago, 3 weeks was spent in the shop trying to recover data from my G4, so far, this is the one corrupt file i found from all that was dug from the depths of the IBM DiskStar. Oh well, hope you two solved your auto, oral, and digital woes. Come to think of it, my starter in my car needs repair and I have a cracked molar… I’m like you in the future…
