    (a)- A guy and a girl, and a failing marriage
    What do you want from me? My heart, my soul? Look, I’m sorry if you feel like you married the wrong guy. I’m sorry I was such a great guy back then, but turned into such a self-consumed asshole. I would tell you what I felt if I knew it would do any good, if it would change one thing. But this fucking mess we’ve made is not just a problem anymore, its simply what we’ve become. There is nothing to work through anymore, there is nothing to talk about. It is what it is and I’m moving on with my life, and if you want answers they are going to have to come from someone else.

    John, there is nothing I can possibly say that is going to make this any easier. You’ve come here looking for a reason - you may feel you are entitled to a reason. (pause) Decisions are made, and it is ultimately revealed to us soldiers what we need to know to finish the job, and it is neither my prerogative nor yours to question the rational nor the nature of this directive, this task.

    I don’t have the liberty to think why it has to be these men at this time and this place. God only knows but that there comes a time and place in war where men are sent to do things that only men can do. We don’t guarentee return passage, all I knows is this is something that HAS to be done. So you need go back to your men, and you tell them what you need to tell them as their platoon leader, and not as their friend. And if you came here for something more, you ain’t gonna get it.
