So I went to the audition yesterday feeling a little nervous about playing the violin. I had been able to nail the intro to “The devil went down to Georgia” a couple times in practice but not with 100% consistency. I just wasn’t sure if I could do it under pressure and in front of the camera. When I arrived at the casting studio there was another person there as well. His violin case was much more sophisticated than mine and when he took out his violin and played he sounded professional. I got a little worried but decided to not let it phase me. I read the storyboards for the commercial and noticed that this was going to be a hip-hop version of “The devil went down to Georgia” with Jay-Z rapping over the violins. I felt more confident because I was way more hip-hop than the other guys that started showing up. I also figured that the violin playing would only be half of what they are looking for. The primary factor would be if you can act. The violin part could always be dubbed in at post. So I practiced for 15min in the lobby really nailing down the intro. When it was my turn I just told myself to really concentrate on the acting and hope I can nail the violin part. Well, the rehersal went ok, then the first taping I screwed up the violin part. The casting director liked what I was doing acting wise and gave me a small adjustment and told me to try again. Once again, I screwed up the violin part. The casting director seemed pretty happy with my acting but I told him I wish I could just nail the violin part down on camera so he gave me one last try. BAM! I nailed it.

So the audition went pretty good and I think I have a pretty good chance. Of all the people that were there when I was I’m pretty confident that I gave the best acting performance since most of the guys there looked and sounded more like professional violin players than actors.

We’ll see what happens.
